Here is a pretty good, pretty long, guide to using bash. It is NOT about UNIX commands, so don't look here for notes about ls, cd and such. Actual programs to do work can be written in bash and this book is about that. It is a collection of HTML files and amounts to about 500 pages of printed text, so I reccomend reading it on the computer. The file listed above may not be readable using WinZip. I have a copy in zip format, if you want a copy. It is about 500K.

Here is a short, pretty good introduction to using the vi editor. It covers enough to get you through this course.

The WS_FTP LE program is available from this site http://www.ipswitch.com/
Once there, click on the 'Downloads' tab and select the 'Evaluation Software' choice. Down towards the bottom of the page that appears is a section on WS_FTP LE and a link to download it from FTPplanet.com

Since you are using this for school, it should be fine for you to use it. If you use it a lot for other things, you might want the Pro version (which costs money) but you don't need that for this class. Again, at the bottom of the page is a line to 'Download WS_FTP LE.'
Click here and go to the form to fill out to get a copy. You should use DeVry as the name of the school and you are a member of of a degree granting institution so you can (and must) click on the last box. I believe what you get is an email that contains a link to download the software. Just follow the instructions and you should be ready to go.
