These are bits of text that seem to appear in most DeVry syllabi, so I put them here.
In accordance with DeVry Institute’s Mission Statement, we are a diverse college community of life long learners committed to promoting the acceptance and respect of individual differences that are inherent in our college. Through standards of conduct and diversity training we seek an environment that will insure the success, well being and safety of our entire DeVry community. Therefore, it is our position to empower everyone at DeVry to be responsible for each other and to actively uphold the standards of conduct as defined in the student and employee handbooks.
We support fair, equal and nondiscriminatory treatment as a responsibility of all members of our DeVry Community. In support of this statement Students, faculty, staff and all other members of the DeVry community are expected to respect diversity which includes but is not limited to age, disability, gender, marital status, national origin, race, religion, and sexual orientation. Students engaging in discriminatory behavior will be subject to the consequences established in the Student’s Code of Conduct in the Student Handbook. Student grievances involving charges of discrimination and sexual harassment should be taken to the Student Services Office.
Any activity that threatens the academic integrity of DeVry Institute will result in disciplinary action. These activities include, but are not limited to, cheating on quizzes, labs, and exams, plagiarism, using another's labs, or work as your own, and acquiring or selling copies of school work. The instructor assumes that all work you submit for grading represents your own original work. If the instructor suspects that work you have submitted is partially or completely the work of another person, you will receive a grade of zero (0) for that piece of work. If another student submits a piece of work that the instructor suspects is all or partially yours, you will receive a zero (0) for that piece of work. Consult the Academic Integrity Policy in your Student Handbook for more information.
You are expected to attend every meeting of every class. Attendance will be taken for many class meetings. Should there be extenuating circumstances, I should be notified as soon as possible. You are responsible for getting notes from a fellow student or the web site. Being unaware of this policy is not an acceptable excuse.
DeVry's attendance policy allows a professor to drop a student from the class when the student has been absent for 30% of the class hours in that course.
